We feature digital radiography in our practice. Instead of the old films, we can take an x-ray picture of your teeth that goes immediately into the computer for viewing by both you and the dentist. Radiation is reduced as much as 90 percent compared to traditional x-rays, and so is waste that otherwise can pollute the environment.
Not all dental problems are visible to the naked eye, or can even be found with dental tools. Dental x-rays help us find such problems as:
- Cysts or abscesses
- Loss of bone
- Cavities and other problems between or inside teeth or below the gum line
- Problems with tooth or root positioning
- Abnormalities in development
This excellent technology helps us detect and treat problems early, saving you time, money, discomfort…and maybe even your teeth!
Did you know that one American dies every hour from oral cancer? And the mortality rate has remained virtually unchanged for 40 years? The good news for those diagnosed with oral cancer is that there's a 90% cure rate if it's detected early.
At First Impressions Dentistry, we are very pleased to provide one of the most effective oral cancer screenings available today – the VELscope™ is an FDA- approved oral cancer screening system. Cancerous and pre-cancerous lesions may go undetected without the use of VELscope, which could lead to possible spreading, pain, disfigurations or death. Using this technology, suspicious tissue is immediately and easily visible, with greater chances of prevention, treatment and recovery. This screening could literally save your life!
The Intra-oral camera is an excellent tool that has greatly improved the way we examine our patients’ teeth. Using a pen-sized camera, we take video of your teeth and project the live image onto a television screen in the treatment room. This image is magnified, allowing us to better see and detect any decay, cracked or leaking fillings, or other problems. This technology helps us to diagnose and treat problems earlier than was ever before possible. Best of all, you also get to be part of your treatment, as you get to see for yourself as well.
Our patients place value on healthy and attractive teeth. In order to maintain them, First Impressions Dentistry provides the earliest possible care with the DIAGNOdent system. DIAGNOdent provides early detection with a simple, fast and painless examination, and even very small lesions are detected at the earliest stage, enabling our office to protect and preserve the tooth substance.
